I Didn’t Overcome Autism. I Overcame Being Unwanted.

Given up twice. Raised in survival mode. Nonverbal by six. Nearly 240lbs and drowning in numbness by my twenties. This is the story of how discipline, an unshakable marriage, and Christ rebuilt everything and what it can mean for you.

Who is Tony?

I was separated from my biological mother at four months old. Given up for adoption. Raised for the first six years of my life by two women who loved me the only way I knew love — until that was taken from me too, and I was sent to live with a biological father I barely knew.

What followed was neglect, abuse, and a childhood spent learning to survive rather than live. I went nonverbal. I masked my way through school, excelling academically because it was the only language of safety I understood. Nobody around me knew I was autistic. Nobody knew what I needed — including me.

At 18, I left. No family, no safety net, no plan — just the decision that whatever came next had to be mine. What came next wasn’t clean or fast. Years of alcohol, food, and the wrong people to fill a void I didn’t have words for yet. Nearly 240 pounds. Numb.

Then I met my wife. Then I met discipline. Then I met Christ — not as religion, but as the only presence that ever fully met me where I was.

Ten years later, I’m married to my soulmate, down to 160 pounds, and living a life I built on purpose, one hour of discipline at a time. I’m not writing this because I’ve arrived. I’m writing this because I know what it’s like to believe you’re unlovable and be wrong.
